ABOUT THE CUSTOMER

GMO Payment Gateway Japan's largest payment gateway operator.

GMO Payment Gateway operates as the largest payment gateway in Japan, providing payment processing services to a broad merchant and corporate customer base across e-commerce, retail, and emerging digital-payment categories. The 2022 card system implementation on the Bankware platform represented the consolidation of the Bankware card-processing footprint in Japan and one of the most significant payment-segment engagements in the broader Asia-Pacific portfolio.

THE CHALLENGE

High-throughput payment-gateway operation with Japanese regulatory complexity.

GMO Payment Gateway combined the high-throughput requirements of payment-gateway operation with the regulatory complexity of operating in the Japanese payment-licensing regime. The platform had to integrate with the major Japanese card networks, regional payment standards, and the merchant-acquiring infrastructure that GMO operates across the Japanese e-commerce and retail markets, while satisfying the operational rigor that a Tier-1 Japanese payment institution demands.

THE BANKWARE ENGAGEMENT

H-ALIS-equivalent card processing plus BX components, led by Bankware Japan.

The Bankware platform configuration centers on the card-processing surface, H-ALIS-equivalent capability for the issuing and authorization workflows that the payment-gateway business requires, with BX components, BX-I as the interface integrator, BX-PF as the product factory, BX-M as the Java application framework, providing the surrounding integration and product-management capability. Bankware Japan, the Tokyo subsidiary established in 2017, leads the customer-engagement and ongoing support relationship from the local market.

THE RESULT

Japan's #1 payment gateway on Bankware, consolidated 2022.

GMO Payment Gateway's 2022 card system implementation consolidated the Bankware card-processing footprint in Japan. The integration surface includes the major Japanese card networks, regional payment standards, and the merchant-acquiring infrastructure that GMO operates across the Japanese e-commerce and retail markets. Bankware Japan continues to lead the customer-engagement and ongoing support relationship from Tokyo.
