BPI BanKo is a digital banking sub-brand under the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), a leader in the Philippine banking industry. Focused on inclusive finance, the platform was launched in 2018 to deliver mobile-first financial services in rural and under-banked regions of the Philippines. BPI BanKo became a reference case for cloud-hosted CBP in the Philippine market.

THE CHALLENGE

Mobile-first inclusive finance amidst infrastructure constraints and regulatory complexity.

BPI BanKo had to provide mobile-first financial services in rural and under-banked regions of the Philippines amidst infrastructure constraints, lean IT staffing typical of inclusive-finance platforms, and the complex regulatory requirements set by BSP (Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas). The institution needed a core banking platform that could be deployed quickly, scale aggressively as the customer base grew, and operate without a full data-center build.

THE BANKWARE ENGAGEMENT

BX Core Banking deployed on Alibaba Cloud, one of the first in the Philippines.

Bankware deployed BX Core Banking (CBP) on Alibaba Cloud Singapore VPC, one of the first cloud-deployed core banking projects in the Philippine market. The configuration supports BPI BanKo's inclusive-finance product line with monthly subscription pricing based on account numbers. The platform has delivered six-plus years of stable service from Korea.

BPI BanKo serves over one million customer accounts with 40% customer growth in Year 1, 77% in Year 2, and a 33% average annual growth rate. Eighty-plus new loan products were launched in the first six months. Six-plus years of stable service have been delivered from Korea, with monthly subscription pricing based on account numbers. The platform became a reference case for cloud-hosted CBP in the Philippine market.
