ABOUT THE CUSTOMER

K-Bank, Korea's first fully internet-based digital bank.

K-Bank was established in 2017 as South Korea's first fully internet-based digital bank, with no physical branches. By 2025, K-Bank serves 13.1 million users, up from 600,000 at launch, and ranks #1 in Korea by digital-bank customer acquisition speed. The reference engagement that established Bankware's capability as a Digital-Native Core Banking provider.

THE CHALLENGE

A complete core in eleven months, under a regulator deadline.

K-Bank had to build a complete core banking system capable of supporting millions of users in an extremely short timeframe, while satisfying the Korean Financial Supervisory Service and Financial Services Commission. There was no legacy. There was no architectural inheritance to fight. There was a license, a launch date, and a regulator. The platform had to be ready to onboard six hundred thousand customers on day one, and scale aggressively from there.

THE BANKWARE ENGAGEMENT

BX Core Banking and BX Product Factory, on the CPA architecture.

Bankware delivered BX Core Banking on the CPA architecture, Configurable, Pluggable, Assemblable, using fifteen hundred existing components and a thousand product templates. The full deposit, loan, and payment line was configured rather than coded. BX Product Factory carried the rapid product launch layer; BX Interface integrated channel and partner systems; BX M provided the operational Java framework.

THE RESULT

Twenty-onefold customer growth, Korea's first non-face-to-face mortgage, 50% lower IT cost.

K-Bank scaled from 600,000 customers at launch to 13.1 million by 2025, twenty-onefold growth. Deposits grew from 3 trillion won to 28 trillion. Loans grew from 2 trillion to 17 trillion. Korea's first 100% non-face-to-face mortgage loan was launched on the platform. The product portfolio expanded from 15 instruments at launch to 42 by 2021. New product development time was cut by 30% relative to other internet banks, and IT cost for new product launch ran fifty percent below competitors, 85 man-months against 200.
